Uni-Play offers a range of play therapy training courses for professionals and volunteers who want to work therapeutically with children. Courses are taught by experienced course directors, all of whom are qualified psychotherapists or counsellors. The courses are not only theoretical and practical but are also based on research into the clinical outcomes of the children who have received play therapy from the course participants.

The course is a 14 hour professional development programme which has previously been accredited and endorsed by Skillsactive, the Sector Skills Council for Active Leisure and Learning. It provides learners with an introduction to the principles of playwork and covers some of the underpinning knowledge needed for the Playwork National Occupational Standards at level 2. The course uses interactive group work, discussion and participative activities. Assessment is based on the learner’s active participation in the sessions and a reflection diary sheet based on their own practical experience of working with children.

This popular course has been developed to support those who deliver Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programmes in Devon County Council. It explores the unique needs of older children in HAF settings and how to meet these through play, relationships and activities. The course focuses on how to use outdoor spaces and resources in the most effective way as well as the benefits of a holistic approach to supporting children’s play.

Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate of attendance from the Playwork Foundation. This will be available to download from the Playwork Foundation website once your attendance has been verified. To achieve a full certificate you must attend 80% of the sessions, actively participate in sessions and complete assessments including a course reflective diary.

Uni-Play also offer a wide range of training courses for those working with young people including Safeguarding and Child Protection, Child Minding and Child Development. These are run by experienced and highly qualified trainers who have extensive experience of running their own training centres in Devon and nationally. Courses can be tailored to suit specific requirements and to meet the needs of individual organisations.

The courses are aimed at all levels of staff, managers and volunteers in children’s centres and other play and youth organisations. They will equip participants with the understanding and skills to be able to develop and deliver high quality play and childcare services, whatever their role. The courses are based on the best practice, theory and evidence from around the world and are delivered in a supportive, friendly and safe environment. The content is highly relevant to the current legislation and best practice guidance in England. They are also in line with the European Union recommendations for the rights of the child. The courses are designed to be fun, interactive and inclusive. The fee for each course includes a comprehensive training manual, all sessions, lunches and refreshments.
